I love getting memes like the following. They so intelligently ask a single question for which there are at least 10,000 complex, inter-related answers to- knowing full well that they are in a position to cut apart any partial response. So let us see how far we can expand the average person’s understanding of the subject matter presented. We will make it as educational and as humorous as their sense of values and taste allow us to proceed.
Why didn’t god/Jesus simultaneously appear in different regions across the globe? A mass revelation, if you will. Why appear only to sun-stroked, illiterate shepherds?
(Larry- First the God of the Bible, is my reference book, the God of the Quran (the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from God) is not, and the God of the Torah (the body of wisdom and law contained in Jewish Scripture and other sacred literature and oral tradition ) is only a partial representation of the God of the Bible (the Christian scriptures, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments). “sun-stroked, illiterate shepherds” Second, that is how you talk about your ancestors?)
(But then you and you pals probably believe that you somehow you came from a puddle of pus percolating in a pristine private portion of the earth and created you and all those around you. You probably also believe that you are smarter (well have greater brain functionality let us say) than those Neanderthals and original Homo Sapiens that created mathematics and writing and architecture just because that stuff was so crude compared to what we can do today).
Keith -Why is there so much talk about religion on pages that dont believe in it? October 17 at 6:44am (Larry –A fair question and I do a complete answer that follows several of these brilliant responses)
Austin -Because the beliefs of magic people in the sky are strongly influencing world politics and wars. October 17 at 8:10am (One of the most idiotic of the responses. I would posit that world politics and the current plethora of wars is due to not enough world leaders following a Christian perspective. Even if you take out the Islamic atrocities, there is very little ‘brotherly love’ being displayed between nations- so your allusion that our God of love is a ‘magic person’ in the sky points out gaping holes in your personal set of beliefs and perspective on the facts of the world around you.)
Ed – And because the fools who believe in this tripe want an actual “Armageddon” to happen in order to prove their fairy tales… October 17 at 10:30am (Larry – tripe = nonsense; fairy tales = A fairy tale is a type of short story that typically features European folkloric fantasy characters, such as dwarves, elves, fairies, giants, gnomes, goblins; Armageddon – the site or time of a final and conclusive battle between the forces of good and evil. What little this person knows of Armageddon is legion- a great summary can be found at http://www.battle-of-armageddon.org/ from which this image was purloined:
As Christians, we do not believe in fairy tales, but we do believe in the miracles and revelations as presented as historical fact in the Bible. Far easier to believe than the fairy tales I have read from secular scientists about the concept of time and evolution and natural selection and pond scum to pomegranates to people like you – but certainly not like me.)
Todd – because religion makes you brain think inside the box! (mental slavery) October 17 at 11:50am (Larry –Some of the greatest thinkers known to mankind were Christians. Some of the greatest scientists known in their respective fields of mathematics, physics, astrophysics, geology, biology are Christians. You have to think clearly and concisely of the probabilities inside the box before you can imagine the greatness of possibilities outside of it.)
Ryan -If you dont believe in god why do you talk about him so much? I know a detective that talks alot about criminals. Crazy aint it.. ~Ricky Garvais~ Quote might be a bit off but you get the point. October 17 at 3:44pm (Larry –The only response so far that makes some sort of sense. This is supposed to be a page that discusses the ‘Godless’ and the “Irreligious’ (based upon the moderators point of view, of course) so religion is clearly a topic for conversation. If this was a page for 9/11 truthers you would have a whole lot more BS being printed.)
The Godless and Irreligious I’m tired of answering this stupid question or responding to stupidity. 36 mins (Larry – He must feel like Obama, what power he has when he wields his pen or rather what questions he wants to answer or not answer or spin the answer in the direction he wants. Of course the blanket “responding to stupidity” kind of means that any time he doesn’t answer a question, the people who asked it and the other followers of his that do respond, and the ones who would like an explanation from someone who supposedly knows all (or is a know it all) about the subject by virtue of running a web page, are of course “STUPID”).
Qualesi – They were not super sayans ! (Larry –a fictional extraterrestrial race in the Dragon Ball manga series Saiyan (film)) Yesterday at 10:29am (Larry – Nothing in particular to say here- this person is off in their own atmosphere)
Matthew – There is a lot of Dos equis pics on here….I don’t always bash religion but when I do….I love to post a ridiculous pic about… Yesterday at 12:00am (Larry – an irrelevant posting, he does like, to me the dumb and boring, Dos Equis commercials on TV. A minor joke.)
Janet- I’m sure God has his reasons. Ask him when you see him. October 17 at 12:38pm (Larry – Aha, a believer. Me I’m going to ask ‘Why snot?’)
William -This fact alone is to me, perhaps one of the most compelling arguments against the existence of this so called god of theirs. It is ludicrous at the very least to hang onto mythology as if it’s the anchor of humanity. As all anchors do…they sink. This one in particular actually stinks. October 17 at 9:58am (Instead of writing a typical ‘talking point’, this gentleman actually went so far as to write a comment. In the so called belief of hundreds of millions of years of complex life on Earth, only we are rational. Only we are moral agents. Only we truly create. I find it ludicrous to believe that of all the animate creatures that developed from the bubbling brine that the intelligence of the other creatures ceased at a level far below ours. And that is the foundation of your beliefs which I am sorry seems to be built on sinking sand.)
Tyler- Lol. October 17 at 8:53am (Larry –I can hear you laughing all way over here, to bad you have very little idea as to what you are laughing about.)
Kathy- Keith, first, the “page” doesn’t believe anything.. but the people who are members of the page do believe in religion because we can see all the different religions everywhere all over the world. We just don’t believe in any of their gods. October 17 at 7:43am ( Larry – Religion = 1) beliefs and worship: people’s beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life; 2) system: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine; 3) personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by. I’m sorry Kathy I don’t believe in your personal religion of strongly held values and attitudes that you live by. However, I do have faith = belief in and devotion to the one and only God.)
Hannah -Then why post about them and make a big scene? Attention attentions. <sigh> October 17 at 11:10am (Larry –Because this is America, but many people can distort the privileges that come from the rights granted them)
Michael -Because, Hannah, there’s this amazing thing called… “If I run a blog I can post what the fuck I want”. October 17 at 12:49pm (Larry -I knew that there would eventually be somebody who had to be vulgar. Strange, but it always happens. I’ve always wondered what these characters childhood was like that would cause them to be vulgar in conversational discussions.)
Mike- Well God does flood the whole earth in the Noah story… Obviously didn’t really happen but in the context of the story God does act outside that area October 17 at 3:52am (Larry- Mike at what point did you decide to stop learning-when your brain became so full that you got headache or when you just were not able to understand anything anymore. There is medications for both conditions. )
Nova the known world then wasnt much larger than that circle it wasnt the world that got flooded that never happened now a land bridge did fall into its self and water did flood a large region * inside the circle* but thats all. there isnt one shred of proof that the whole world flooded thats like that shit that says if the polar ice caps melt it will flood the whole world but it wouldent there isnt enough water their to do it. and come the fuck on people cant tell me that u believe a man built a huge boat * would have needed to be miles long and fuck if i know how wide* and put a pair of all animals on earth in his boat and survived without the predators eating the prey with out proper stores of food because i dont give a fuck what you say even if he tried to bring a pair of all animals that are in the circle still couldent happen would still be to many animals and no way to feed them..come the fuck on people its just like the tooth fairy, tell me u adults believe in that too. October 17 at 6:51am (Larry-No, not the tooth fairy. But if you take just a little bit of your valuable time (just a little more than what it takes to write repetitive vulgarity) you could easily look up a number of articles both by secular and Biblical scientists that would explain how Noah’s ark was possible to build and could handle two of each ‘kind” of animal. You cannot be blinded by your incorrect concept of ‘speciation,’ the Biblical version of ‘kinds’ is what is important here. As for a worldwide flood, there is more evidence to prove it than to disprove it and the secular geologists are coming up with some very interesting and hilarious stories to try to fit many findings into their concept of a billion year timeline and all of them have enormous holes in them. They are being picked apart daily by both secular and Biblical geologists and paleontologists. )
Emil That flood actually happened and is a historical fact during Sumerian period and civilization in today’s Iraq. This historic fact later turned into a mythology of that region and by time became part of Abrahamic religions’ childish stories attributed to whole world. · October 17 at 7:08am · Edited (Larry – Emil almost right. The flood myth motif is widespread among many cultures and copies the Genesis flood narrative as seen in the Mesopotamian flood stories commonly called the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Hindu religious books from India called Puranas, Deucalion in Greek mythology, and in the lore of the K’iche’ and Maya peoples in Mesoamerica, the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa tribe of Native Americans in North America, the Muisca people, and Cañari Confederation, in South America. They were all written long after the Biblical Flood was documented in the Holy Scriptures. The ‘childish stories’ you are talking about are part of the ‘fairy tails’ that Ed and Mike believe in so much that they will deny any knowledge of them.
Now for the truth that some of you folks conveniently choose to ignore. The Old Testament is a historical accounting of God’s covenant with His people, the Israelites. Various other peoples and nations are mentioned, but generally in the context of battles or peace arrangements between them.
It is not a history of the Mongols, Mayans or Malaysians. Those cultures and civilizations may or may not have developed a method of recording their activities – for better or worse. Therefore, that allows dissenters, non-conformists, atheists, and other malcontents the opportunity to pick on the Bible which was inspired by the Word of the One and Only God.
As the population of the earth spread out from Eden after the fall (both secular and Biblical scientists have varying ideas as to how this was accomplished), and humans forgot certain aspects of their faith and allowed their imaginations to fill in various concepts, ‘religions’ developed that emulated in part the historical record of the prophesy of the life, death and resurrection of the one true God. )
Then I got these two responses from someone who I did talk about above:
Owen I took your name, rearranged the letters into the most legible arrangement of words I could, and came up with ‘ALL ARMS HARRY’. about an hour ago
Owen And also, discussion infers that there are more than one person talking, not one. It’s a either a whinge or a rant if it’s just you, not a discussion. about an hour ago
Larry Marshall Don’t know why you would want to rearrange the letters in my name, but ok- talented I guess. Discussion (noun) 1. the action or process of talking about something, typically in order to reach a decision or to exchange ideas: 2.a conversation or debate about a certain topic: Definition # 2 requires more than one person, definition # 1 does not. 13 minutes ago
Larry Marshall I would prefer fulminating over rant and certainly do not believe I was engaged in an act of complaining. I was simply presenting where a significant difference of opinion exists between my viewpoints and those who posted. 5 minutes ago
